Q: What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done to get your hands on any particular book?

I honestly can't think of anything crazy. I guess i spend my last couple of quid on books when i'm broke. That's more stupid than crazy though. I am crazy generally so don't tend to do crazy things. What about you?

Blindsighted Review Karin Slaughter

Blindsighted (Grant County 1)
Karin Slaughter

Synopsis

"The sleepy town of Heartsdale, Georgia, is jolted into panic when Sara Linton, the town’s pediatrician and coroner, finds Sibyl Adams, a young college professor, dead in the local diner. As well as being viciously raped, Sibyl has been cut: two deep knife wounds form a lethal cross over her stomach. But it’s only once Sara starts to perform the postmortem that the full extent of the killer’s brutality starts to become clear.

Police chief Jeffrey Tolliver -- Sara’s ex-husband -- is in charge of the investigation, and when a second victim is found, crucified, only a few days later, he has to face the fact that Sibyl’s murder wasn’t a single personal attack: They’re dealing with a sadistic rapist turned killer who is terrorizing rural Grant County.

Jeffrey isn’t alone in his search. Lena Adams -- the county’s sole female detective -- wants to see justice done since her sister was the first victim. Sara, too, cannot escape the terror. A secret from her past could hold the key to finding the killer -- unless he finds her first." Goodreads

Okay so I don't normally tend to read non fantasy books but this was an exception (I got nagged in to it). I've been in a bit of a reading slump recently. I'm not sure why but this has really kicked me back into reading shape. This is one of those books that as soon as you read the first chapter you go WOW THIS IS GOOD.

IT has everything you could want from a book. Suspense, drama, gore and romance...and a good whodunit. I admit I knew who the murderer was as soon as he was introduced, because it he was the least likely candidate...so had to be him right? Still a really good whodunit as I changed my mind about twenty times before the big reveal. There were also lots of other twists and turns which had me thinking really.

I adore Lena, she's a bad ass cop whose sister has just been murdered. She definitely stood out for me, although the series focuses mainly on Sara and Jeff. They're pretty interesting too but I do like a woman who is okay with been a bitch.

So I would give this book five bags of milky way magic stars because it is that good, and also it's got me reading properly again. Just started the second one and so far so great.

A compelling story of guilty secrets, troubled friendship and burgeoning love." Goodreads

Torn gripped me from the get go. It's not a slow paced read. It's full of suspense and drama. I found myself really feeling for Alice. She's kind of a victim too in the whole thing. There were parts of the book where I wanted so badly for her come to terms with what happened. It definitely makes you think though. I honestly wouldn't know what I would do in that situation. Definite i-know-what-you-did-last-summer theme.

I wasn't sure if I was reading a ghost story or what, but that made more sense as the plot evolved and It clicked in. On the whole I did really enjoy Torn. I would definitely recommend it.

The only negative thing for me was the ending. It didn't feel finished, and I found it all a little rushed. If the ending had kept in key with the rest of the book I would give this five bags of magic stars, but I was quite disappointed so I'm afraid it's a four from me.
