Betrayal: Lee Nichols Review

Betrayal
Lee Nichols
Bloomsbury

Synopsis

"Emma Vaile is the most powerful ghostkeeper in centuries. Which is great for battling the wraith-master Neos and horrible for her social life. Emma knows fellow ghostkeeper Bennett Stern is her soul mate, but when ghostkeepers fall in love, the weaker one loses all power. And until Neos is defeated, Bennett and Emma can't risk it.

When the temptation of being with Emma gets to be too much, Bennett disappears, pursuing a dangerous path to increase his powers. Heartbroken and alone, Emma tries to lose herself in school. But when the Knell, a secret ghostkeeping society, sends two new ghostkeepers to Echo Point—one a snarky teen guy, the other a British scholar—Emma throws herself into training to battle Neos. But as the team grows stronger, so do the ghosts. And worse, one of their own will betray them. One Emma never suspected. . ."

Adumbrations

The second installment of this brilliant series is Betrayal. The story starts a few weeks after the end of the first one. Bennett and Emma are finally together but their problems are just beginning. Then enters some new characters and Bennett's parents.

What I liked most about this book was that it was more action packed than Deception, and not overly angst ridden (I like a little bit of angst in my book but not where it drips off every page). We learn even more about Ghostkeeping, and about Emma's past...as well as her parents.

Bennett comes in to his own in this book, and we get to know more about his feelings and motives, which adds another layer to the story.

There were some parts that were a little predictable, and I found myself feeling a little bit 'is that it' at the end of the book. I wanted more. However it did deliver in some many ways. Plot, ghosts and love.

I can't wait for Surrender now.

I give this book 4 bags of milky wag magic stars

Deception Review

Deception
Lee Nichols
Published by Bloomsbury

Synopsis

"When Emma Vaile's parents leave on mysterious business trip, it gives her the perfect excuse to be a rebellious teen. Throw some parties, get a tattoo (or maybe just a piercing), and enjoy the first few weeks of her junior year. Then her best friend stops talking to her, the cops crash her party, and Emma finds herself in the hands of a new guardian—her college-age "knight in J.Crew armor," Bennett Stern—and on a plane to his museum-like mansion in New England.

After enrolling at Thatcher Academy, Emma settles in by making friends with the popular legacy crowd. But she can't shake the strange visions that are haunting her. She has memories of Thatcher she can't explain, as if she's returning home to a place she's never been. Emma doesn't trust anyone anymore—except maybe Bennett. But he's about to reveal a ghostly secret to Emma. One that will explain the visions . . . and make Emma fear for her life." Goodreads

Amy's Adumbrations

I am a massive fan of Deception and I can see Lee Nichols becoming a favourite author of mine.

What really endeared me to this book was how accepting Emma is of her ability. The story doesn't throw you in at the deep end like a lot of books. You gradually learn (but not too gradually where it can be annoying) that Emma is a Ghostkeeper. I adore the concept of the ghostkeeper as I do have a fondness for ghosty stories.

The plot is fairly action packed, and full of wonderful interest peaking moments. I would definitely recommend it.

Now on to the love interests...I didn't like that fact that Emma entertained a certain boy when it was quite obvious who she was in love with. Bennett Stern. Although I automatically like him, it soon wore off, and by the second book I wanted somebody to kick him...well you'll have to wait for that review.

All in all I really enjoyed this book and order you to grab a copy.

"Nobody expected Dru Anderson to survive this long. Not Graves. Not Christophe. Not even Dru. And in the end, is survival really worth the sacrifice?

DRU ANDERSON’S NOT AFRAID OF THE DARK.
BUT SHE SHOULD BE." Goodreads

I can't wait for the last installment in the strange angels series. I didn't enjoy the last book, but I have high hopes for this one.
