Mercy Review

Mercy
Rebecca Lim
Published by Harper Collins
Synopsis

"There's something very wrong with me. I can't remember who I am or how old I am, or even how I got here. All I know is that when I wake up, I could be any one. It is always this way. There's nothing I can keep with me that will stay. It's made me adaptable. I must always re-establish ties. I must tread carefully or give myself away. I must survive.

Mercy doesn't realise it yet, but as she journeys into the darkest places of the human soul, she discovers that she is one of the celestial host exiled with fallen angel, Lucifer. Now she must atone for taking his side. To find her own way back to heaven, Mercy must help a series of humans in crisis and keep the unwary from getting caught up in the games that angels play. Ultimately she must choose between her immortal companion, Lucifer, and a human boy who risks everything for her love."

Amy's Adumbrations

Mercy is definitely special as it's unlike any YA paranormal book I've ever read. I really enjoyed the freshness of it.

The only real concern I had with this book was the fact that we don't learn much about Mercy. I was literally speed reading by the end of it hoping we'd find out more. It's all very mysterious. A little too mysterious.

Now what I did like about Mercy was the concept behind it. The idea of been thrown in to an arbitrary person, and having to somehow work out what's going on. I don't even know what I'm personally supposed to be doing on any given morning so I'd struggle if I was in her situation. I seriously loved the whole work out who I am, and who I'm supposed to be -thing-. It was somewhat cringe worthy at times, poor Mercy.

There was also a whodunit as well as all the Mercy/Carmen drama. Mercy/Carmen are staying with a family whose daughter is believed to have been murdered. Her brother -Ryan- doesn't believe this. Ensues plot. I love trying to work out who the culprit is, and this book did it really well. I guess who it was of course, but there were some spanners put in the works that made me doubt my superior detective skills.

The love interests. Plural as it's leading up to what I assume is a love triangle in the sequel. Luc, the only person Mercy trusts and remembers. I don't trust him. Then Ryan the brother of the missing girl...who I love. He's quite swoon worthy, and I hope there's more of him in Exile.

I enjoyed Mercy and would recommend it to anyone who likes a lot of mystery. I can't wait to read the sequel Exile. Thus, I give Mercy four bags of milky way magic stars.

  1. I'm always up for a good mystery, but for some reason, I've just left this sitting on my bookshelf untouched! I've heard that it is a bit frustrating how little we learn about Mercy, so I've had trouble picking it up because that kind of stuff is important to me.

    Great review. :-)

  6. It's really interesting cause this was advertised as much more of a silly romance based novel than it actually is, I think that was a bit of a error really cus it sounds quite good
